Webinar+: Regulating illegal and harmful content: what does it mean for advertisers? - About

A look at how recent moves to regulate illegal and harmful content around the world could impact advertisers and their brand safety efforts.

,

Over recent years, online platforms have come under increased scrutiny over the way they handle harmful and illegal content online. This has been exacerbated even further by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has seen digital giants such as Facebook and Google criticised for the spread of COVID-19 related misinformation on their platforms.

As a result of these developments, governments around the world have been looking at introducing new regulations to strengthen the responsibility of online platforms when it comes to how they police and remove harmful and illegal content on their sites, including the UK, New Zealand, China, France and at EU level. Meanwhile, the Global Alliance for Responsible Media has been driving cross-industry action to create a more sustainable and responsible digital environment that protects consumers, the media industry and society as a result.

In this webinar, Gabrielle Robitaille, Digital Policy Manager, WFA, will talk about global policy trends related to regulating harmful and illegal content online, and what this could mean for advertisers. James Barge, Public Policy Director, ISBA, and Lindsay Mouat, Chief Executive, ANZA, will deep-dive into the development of new and emerging regulation in the UK and New Zealand. And Rob Rakowitz, Initiative Lead for the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, WFA, will talk about the work that the Global Alliance for Responsible Media is doing to raise standards across the industry and how this could interact with potential future legislation in this space.
