The Opportunity

Hyatt seeks a creative and enthusiastic Director, Global Brand Communications, Lifestyle & Luxury to join our Global Communications team – based either in Chicago or New York City. Collaborating closely with Hyatt’s lifestyle and luxury brand teams, this role will be dedicated to cultivating relevance and driving preference for Hyatt’s distinct lifestyle and luxury brands with guests and consumers through earned media and impactful activations, on property and beyond. The Role

The Director of Global Brand Communications, Lifestyle & Luxury ensures we drive an engaging and targeted consumer communications strategy for 10+ brands across Hyatt’s lifestyle and luxury portfolios, with the goal of increasing brand awareness and preference by elevating dialogue in the places and spaces lifestyle and luxury audiences play.

This creative thinker will be deeply immersed in both culture and the lifestyle and luxury travel space, translate consumer insights into storytelling, leverage deep relationships across media and influencer networks, and lead brand/lifestyle PR agencies to implement communication programs for differentiated activation across Hyatt’s brands and global regions.

Reporting to the SVP of Global Communications, and working in lockstep with Hyatt’s lifestyle and luxury groups, the individual in this position will be a key leader on Hyatt’s Global Communications team, provide strategic communication counsel to business partners, align closely with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Operations, F&B, Design, Social Media and Digital, provide leadership to team members and act as a liaison for Brand Communications colleagues across Hyatt’s portfolios and global regions.

This role can be based in Chicago or New York City, with regular travel between both locations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement brand consumer and customer communications strategies, messaging, campaigns, and initiatives that drive preference and differentiation for Hyatt’s lifestyle and luxury brands and support Hyatt’s overall as well as each brand’s strategic priorities in close alignment with respective Lifestyle & Luxury teams
  • Leverage an in-depth understanding of the global lifestyle and luxury industry, consumer, and competitive landscape to create programs and initiatives that cut through and drive meaningful engagement
  • Partner with regional counterparts to customize campaigns and activations to resonate across global regions
  • Employ a sophisticated understanding of the consumer journey and lifestyle/luxury-specific media to quantify the effectiveness of PR and media programs
  • In collaboration with the respective Lifestyle/Luxury team, select and oversee lifestyle and luxury communications PR agencies and their efforts to drive measurable earned media results, and both consumer and trade recognition, including:
  • Always-on consumer news engine
  • Activations around key moments like brand builder hotel openings, cultural moments, and events
  • Executive visibility for lifestyle/luxury spokespeople
  • High-caliber recognition for the brands and individual hotels
  • Utilization of the Lifestyle and Luxury brands to create a network effect for Hyatt’s overall brand portfolio and World of Hyatt while creating a halo effect for Hyatt with the investment community
  • Serve as manager and mentor for three direct reports, cultivate talent, guide team members’ career development and growth
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Hyatt's core values

Qualifications

Experience Required:

  • Highly creative communications leader with proven success driving impactful consumer communications strategies in the lifestyle and/or luxury space
  • 10+ years of lifestyle and/or luxury brand development/communications/marketing experience, in-house and/or agency
  • High degree of expertise and connections across culture/lifestyle/luxury consumer media, sophisticated clientele, and influencer landscape
  • Outstanding brand/consumer writing and editing skills
  • Extensive understanding of the evolving media landscape and deep relationships across traditional media, emerging media, sophisticated global clientele, and influencers
  • Strong track record of establishing innovative communication and engagement programs that drive brand awareness, preference, and loyalty
  • Degree in marketing, PR, communications, journalism, or related field of study
  • Skilled in synthesizing, simplifying, and communicating trends and consumer media behavior into clear insights and strategic recommendations that stand out
  • Differentiation between lifestyle and luxury portfolios and development of audience-specific communication strategies
  • Ability to set KPIs to measure programs determine effectiveness and drive accountability
  • Test-and-learn mindset ready to experiment and embrace new ways of working
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • High degree of personal and professional savvy and experience to inspire confidence among lifestyle/luxury as well as corporate leadership audiences
  • Ability to lead through consensus, strong mentoring orientation
  • Strong empathetic orientation and high level of personal commitment/caring, unquestionable integrity
  • Proficient, solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strategic thinker with excellent listening skills

  • Ability to travel globally as required (approximately 10-25%)

Experience Preferred:

  • Travel/tourism/hospitality experience a strong plus
