DescriptionBe part of a team that is responsible for driving an exciting agenda to deliver our commitments under the new Compass: Net zero emissions from all our products by 2039: from sourcing to sale.

The focus of this position is to deliver a program that drives reductions in the upstream value chain emissions of climate-priority materials and ingredients. This is to be achieved via the development and delivery of decarbonisation plans for key ingredients, working with both internal teams and externally with suppliers. You will also manage a program of externally facing work with a priority set of suppliers that builds supplier climate ambition and capabilities.

The role requires a leveraging of resources, skills and knowledge, such that we are able to scale in-house and expert capabilities across an entire organization (procurement) and beyond (with upstream suppliers). The role requires practitioners’ technical knowledge on the Climate topic, including Life cycle assessment and greenhouse gas footprints; and experience working with and influencing a diverse supplier base to drive a sustainability agenda.

Key Accountabilities:

Ingredient Decarbonisation Roadmaps for priority portfolios:
- Onboarding of x-functional internal teams to the climate challenge & Procurement’s role within that.
- Jointly and collaboratively build a holistic and integrated decarbonization roadmap for the portfolio, managing input from x-functional teams to develop a plan that highlights key levers of change within R&D and Sourcing strategies, Supplier Strategies and disruptive innovations.
- Roll-out replicable roadmap approach to remaining key portfolios. Base decisions around roll-out on materiality assessments to ensure we’re working in an impactful way.
- Establish and maintain a cadence for reviewing progress against the roadmap; follow up on specific actions to ensure that the overall goals are delivered.
- Ensure roadmaps are integrated into crop/material strategy with relevant Sustainable Sourcing and buying teams.
- Prepare summaries for updating stakeholders including senior leaders
Supplier engagement
- Support in establishing a climate dialogue and relationships with priority Suppliers, basis the decarbonization roadmaps. Play a part in onboarding of key Suppliers to the climate programme.
- Ensure the latest thinking is built into our engagement programme by working externally with peers and other organisations.
- Build and capture an understanding of Supplier’s position on Climate and surrounding context, track performance as suppliers develop against roadmaps and KPIs.
- Identify and manage external resources to help suppliers set appropriate ambition levels and develop capabilities to achieve them. Management of budget and delivery of the external resources according to an agreed KPI framework and contract.
- Empower and upskill Procurement teams through Supplier Engagement framework on climate, leading to a lowering of ingredient GHG emissions, via target setting, increased transparency and build of capabilities.
End-to-end Buying processes and Supplier relationship management
- Practitioners knowledge of the end-to-end buying process between buyers and suppliers, and contractual / policy frameworks. - Maintain strong working relationships with buyers to integrate climate related topics into processes over time.
- This includes supporting the onboarding + capability build on the climate topic of both Buyers and Suppliers

Essential

Professional & Technical Skills:
- Strong analytical, data and information management skills
- Project and change management: disciplined planning, execution, follow up, attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication skills. Able to virtually engage stakeholders of varying seniority across diverse geographies and functions.
- External orientation, market awareness and insights, oriented towards the climate topic
- Climate expertise including lifecycle assessment methodologies
- Procurement process knowledge including practitioners knowledge on how to embed sustainability into procurement strategy

Preferable
- A deep understanding of carbon markets and carbon accounting methodologies and developments thereof

Essential

Experience Required:
- A science graduate, preferably with a Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (engineering, physics / chemistry, sustainability, environmental, agricultural science or similar)
- Delivering outcomes that contribute to a sustainable business, through x-functional teams
- Engaging with and influencing others – both internal and external resources (including suppliers), for meaningful outcomes
- Program / project management skills: delivering an agreed program of work in time, on budget and including stakeholder management / communication.
- Track record of working interdependently and delivering within x functional teams
