The Unstereotype Alliance, UN Women’s flagship partnership with the marketing industry to promote progressive gender representation and diversity in marketing, announced the launch of local chapters in South Africa and Turkey during a meeting of Alliance members at this year’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

This follows the launch of a local chapter in Brazil with the support of Unilever Brazil and the Brazilian Association of Advertisers (ABA) in March. The planned launch in South Africa and Turkey are supported by national advertiser associations in both countries, the Marketing Association of South Africa (MASA) and the Association of Turkish Advertisers (RVD).

The Alliance meeting in Cannes was attended by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women and Chair of the Unstereotype Alliance, Daniel Seymour, Executive Director of the Alliance, UN Women representatives from Brazil, South Africa and Turkey, Alan Jope, Global CEO of Unilever, and senior representatives of global brands and industry organisations including WFA.

Mlambo-Ngcuka was the recipient of the 2019 Cannes LionHeart for her advocacy for women, human rights, and social justice and leadership of the Alliance. Cannes Lions’ jury guidelines were also expanded to champion equal representations and confront inequality.
