Every website has a carbon footprint and the internet accounts for approximately 4% of the world’s CO2 emissions – as much as the airline industry.
To make consumers aware of this fact, and promote its new all-electric SUV, Volkswagen in Canada designed a website that produced next to no carbon emissions.
The Carbon-Neutral Net website replaced energy-sapping photographs of the car with images rendered in a ASCII code, which produces 99% less carbon than the 2 million sites it was tested against, offering Volkswagen customers a more sustainable browsing experience.
