About Task Force on Green Claims in Advertising

Task Force on Green Claims in Advertising - About

WFA’s Green Claims in Advertising Task Force brings together policy leads within WFA membership to discuss, plan and develop advocacy and outreach on the upcoming EU proposals on greenwashing and the substantiation of green claims.

,

Prior to the new year, the European Commission published its revised guidance on the application of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD), which included new strengthened language around environmental claims. Whilst the document merely provides instructions for organisations and enforcement authorities on how to apply UCPD, it can be seen as a stopgap signalling the Commission’s intent on two major upcoming EU legislative proposals with high impact for the advertising industry, due on 30 March:

  • a ban on ‘greenwashing’ in marketing (originally due in December)
  • a proposal on the methodologies and requirements for the substantiation of green claims in advertising

Join us for the first meeting of WFA’s Green Claims in Advertising Taskforce, where we will discuss:

  • the amendments to the UCPD Guidance’s language on green claims and its impact on your business
  • the evolution of the Commission’s thinking on green claims, and what this may mean for the upcoming proposals
  • the role WFA should play in the upcoming dialogue with EU legislators around green claims

This meeting is open to WFA members only.
