Kuala Lumpur was the backdrop of this year's annual WFA National Associations Council (NAC), which took place on 18 March 2016 during WFA's first ever Global Marketer Week held in South East Asia.

17 national advertiser association representatives were in attendance to share and discuss national association and 'digital transformation' strategies to grow membership and remain relevant and accessible to increasingly connected, time-starved and busy members.

The meeting was chaired by Mike Hughes (ISBA, UK). Margaret Au Yong (MAA, Malaysia), this year's host for Global Marketer Week, gave a brief introduction to the marketing situation in Malaysia.

Contributing to the session on expanding membership, Chris Van Roey (UBA, Belgium), Gillian Rusike (MAZ, Zimbabwe) and Sandra Martinelli (ABA, Brazil) shared their respective associations' strategies.

For the session on digital transformation, Anders Ericson (SA, Sweden) and Ritva Hanski-Pitkäkoski (ML, Finland) presented how their associations are adapting to a fast-changing world.

WFA also shared the results of the recent global digital transformation survey, which found that 70% of WFA's corporate members see 'digital transformation' as a top priority. They also presented a brief overview of how national associations use digital in engaging with members.

WFA also took the opportunity to announce that Global Marketer Week 2017 will be held in Canada, in collaboration with the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA).
