The Association of Finnish Advertisers (ML) held an event on the value of advertising at the SuomiAreena ("Finland Arena"), an annual public debate forum held in July in Pori, Finland.

The SuomiAreena is organised by MTV, Finland's largest commercial broadcasting company, and the City of Pori. This year's forum was attended by more than 60,000 Finnish and international visitors who took part in over 150 events organised by the Finnish government, companies, NGOs, and other sectors on various topics such as politics, society, culture and sports.

"Does marketing really matter?" was the theme of ML's panel discussion. The event was part of the Value of Advertising project launched last year by the Finnish Advertising Council. The project aims to highlight the impact of marketing on positive economic growth.

The members of the panel were Anne Berner, Finnish Minister of Transport and Communications, Anssi Vanjoki, Professor of Practice at Lappeenranta University of Technology and Eka Ruola, CEO of local ad agency hasan & partners. The debate was moderated by MTV's Editor-in-Chief Merja Ylä-Anttila.

Aside from the panel discussion, Finnish journalist Tuomas Enbuske "roasted" four CEOs from ML's member companies including Rovio and Lidl about the value of adverting.
