On 24 June, the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) unveiled Zimbabwe's top 200 brands, as part of its "Superbrand" initiative.
This list of selected brands will then be rated and ranked by a sample of 3,000 consumers aged 18 and up through a nationwide survey.
Among the brands in the top 10 are Coca-Cola, Colgate and Vaseline (Unilever). You can find the full list here.
MAZ defines a superbrand as a "brand that has established the finest reputation in its field, offers customers significant emotional and/or tangible advantages over its competitors, which (consciously or sub-consciously) customers want and recognise".
The superbrand is an international concept that was introduced in Zimbabwe by MAZ in 2009. It is meant to promote the discipline of branding in the country, as deliberated by consumers and industry experts.
The process of identifying superbrands has six phases:
1. Shortlisting of brands
2. Unveiling of shortlisted brands
3. Market research and analysis
4. Adjudication of the results
5. Awards ceremony
6. Report publication
