In January, the Israel Marketing Association (IMA) organised their annual conference in Tel-Aviv. This year’s theme was Game Changers in the Marketing World – the Innovations and Technologies that will Change the World of Marketing.

The event gathered more than a thousand marketing professionals from around the country to discuss marketing trends and technologies that will shape 2018 and beyond including working with start-ups, humanising digital and virtual assistants.

Uri Levin, founder of the navigation app Waze, kicked off the conference and said that the journey of a start-up is “a journey of failures”. He explained that successful start-up entrepreneurs do not have one winning idea that immediately succeeds; they go through a series of ideas that don’t work until finally there’s that one idea that does.

Eran Gefen, founder of innovation agency Gefen Team, gave a presentation on the rise of virtual assistants and what this means for marketers. He said that the growing trend of virtual assistants like Amazon’s Alexa can either be a consumer’s dream or a brand’s nightmare; on the one hand such technologies are making consumers’ lives easier but on the other threatening the very existence of certain brands.

Other speakers included IMA CEO Talma Biro who gave the opening speech, Eyal Malis, CEO of Tnuva Group and IMA chairman, and Ilan Shiloah, former CEO and chairman of McCann Erickson-Kesher-Barel and chairman of technology start-ups investment company The Time.
