In January, the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) presented the #SeeHer Award to actress Gal Gadot at the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards. Meant to recognise women who are pushing boundaries on combatting stereotypes, this is the second #SeeHer Award after the inaugural one presented to actress Viola Davis in 2017.
Launched in June 2016, the #SeeHer initiative led by the ANA aims to achieve a 20% rise in the accurate portrayals of women and girls in advertising and media by 2020. Known for playing Wonder Woman in the new Marvel films, Gal Gadot was chosen for embodying the values of this initiative, speaking out against injustices in the entertainment industry as well as the importance of gender equality.
ANA CEO Bob Liodice said: "Not only was Gal able to challenge stereotypes in film and find success by starring in one of the biggest blockbusters this year, she also used that success to shine a light on her own industry and push the boundaries on gender equality in real life."
#SeeHer won a WFA President’s Award at Global Marketer Week 2017 in Toronto.
