The Belgian Advertisers Association (UBA), in cooperation with the Belgian Advertising Council and Deloitte Belgium, recently released a study on the real impact of advertising on the Belgian economy.

This initiative involved an overall econometric analysis of the role of advertising expenditure in explaining GDP, a series of case studies of the impact of advertising on individual aspects of the economy and an analysis of the employment provided by advertising expenditure.

The general findings of the study were:

1. Advertising fuels the economy
2. Advertising makes markets work
3. Advertising funds media and the creative industries
4. Ad spend supports a wide range of employment
5. Advertising supports exports
6. Advertising enables the digital economy
7. Advertising's contribution creates social and economic value

The researchers estimated that advertising adds at least %u20AC13 billion to Belgian GDP by increasing the level of economic activity and increasing the productivity of the economy.
