Experts currently predict that in 30 years, there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish, harming marine life and humans alike.

To tackle the issue and raise consumer awareness, adidas partnered with the environmental organization Parley for the Oceans to turn marine pollution into sportswear. Parley and its partners collect trash from coastal areas, sorted the waste and delivered the recovered plastic to an adidas processing plant.

The initiative is part of adidas' goal to replace all virgin polyester with recycled polyester by 2024, up from today's 40% use of recycled materials in its apparel. Adidas is also developing a 100% recyclable shoe called the Futurecraft Loop, a shoe "made to be remade", as it can be returned and broken down to create a brand-new pair. It is expected to hit the consumer market later in 2021.
