Populist politics are on the rise. Countries are divided. Technology gives a voice to all. And with it, a constant stream of news, fake news and 'alternative facts'.The session, entitled “Building trust through advocacy in a turbulent, connected world”, will look at how brands can navigate this new reality in order to remain relevant and build trust, as well as how the public affairs function should adapt in order to consistently deliver tangible value to their businesses.
Participants will hear from thought-leaders from both the marketing and public affairs space, including Edelman who will present their latest research on the current turbulent environment brand owners operate in.
On the subject of people's privacy, Unilever will share some insights on what brands should keep in mind when creating meaningful relationships and fostering trust with consumers online. This will be followed by a panel discussion with PageFair and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
The session will also touch on how multinational companies must be consistent not only in terms of the way they operate globally but also to ensure they employ joined-up approaches across business functions. Mars will showcase how they conceived their global marketing policy to children, and how it was rolled out across the company globally and communicated externally in order to ensure transpranecy. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Lego and RBS.
