For the past year, the Japan Advertisers Association (JAA) organised a series of roundtable meetings under the “New Way of Working” Working Group, a platform that brings together different stakeholders to help reform the work culture in Japan’s advertising industry. As a result of these meetings, the association recently released guidelines and a handbook for advertising production contracts, which is expected to be adopted by major agencies and production companies in Japan.

The guidelines aim to improve the existing advertising production processes in Japan as well as the relationship between advertisers, agencies and production companies. JAA highlights the importance of respect and trust among the different parties through being explicit and transparent on production costs and deadlines, suitable schedule management and avoiding the practice of long working hours.

The handbook, on the other hand, will serve as a go-to guide for industry stakeholders to grasp the current state and trends in advertising production in Japan.
