On 28 September, representatives of 15 national advertiser associations shared insights and ideas on how to drive forward the advertiser agenda by championing industry best practice at the WFA National Associations Council (NAC) in London.
The meeting was co-hosted by ISBA. Phil Smith, ISBA’s Director General, kicked off the meeting with an overview of the association’s main activities and priorities. He then facilitated a roundtable discussion where attendees shared best practice when picking and prioritising industry issues to campaign on for their members.
On driving forward the advertiser agenda, Jean-Luc Chetrit (UDA, France) shared how the French ad industry is addressing platform challenges while Yeşim Koçyiğit (RVD, Turkey) gave an overview on what her association is doing to address gender stereotypes in advertising in Turkey. WFA also shared recent developments around the Coalition for Better Ads and presented the findings of a recent global survey on influencer marketing.
NAC attendees also worked in teams to identify ideas and actions to bring the Global Media Charter’s ‘Principles of Partnership’ alive at local level.
For the session on organisational growth, John Broome (AANA, Australia) and Jan Morten Drange (ANFO, Norway) shared their experiences and learnings when organising events to strengthen membership and increase visibility.
The meeting concluded with a session on the future of media audience measurement. WFA presented the initial results of a survey on audience measurement systems in different markets. Marion Moerman (BVA, The Netherlands) also shared the Dutch ad industry’s plans to create a new cross-media audience measurement standard. Lastly, Ron Pinelli, Vice President Digital Research and Standards at Media Rating Council (MRC) gave an overview on MRC’s audit processes and the evolution of measurement standards.
